Basic PAX-it Design

Graphical Filing System
PAX-it lets you organize your images in simple, yet powerful way using cabinets and folders. You can title each cabinet and folder. Click on one of the cabinet drawers and it opens, displaying 30 folders. Click on a folder and it displays a 'visual directory', or thumbnails of your images in that folder. Up to 999 images can be stored into each folder, giving you virtually unlimited image archival!

I forgot Which Folder my Image is in...
Yes, it is possible that you might not be able to remember where each image is saved. Because of this, the PAX-it graphical filing system really was designed as a user friendly 'front end' for a very powerful relational database. Each image can be stored with user-definable descriptors. These descriptors are actually search fields to help you sort, search and query PAX-it for specific images.

PAX-it has Toolbars; Toolbars have Buttons
PAX-it uses toolbars as a method of providing easily accessed and commonly used functions. If you are not sure what any button does, just hold your mouse cursor over the button. A function description will appear in a yellow box, also known as a 'tool tip'. The PAX-it toolbars can be turned on or off using the VIEW MENU.

Bringing Images into PAX-it
Images can of course be imported into PAX-it using any standard image format. Images can also be acquired using TWAIN devices, such as scanners or digital cameras. But the most common way of bringing images into PAX-it is via a video camera, typically mounted on a microscope or macro stand. The camera is plugged into the PAX-it capture board. In order to see the live image on the computer monitor, you must 'Go Live'. ( You may Go Live by clicking on the microscope button on the toolbar titled 'Capture'.) The user then 'freezes' the image, at which time it can be saved into any of your PAX-it folders.

Creating Reports with PAX-it
Perhaps on of the most common uses for PAX-it is the creation of reports which contain images. PAX-it 2.0 contains a very nice interface for creating such reports. Multiple images can be selected, and then with a single click these images can be integrated into a custom lab report or failure analysis report. This report generation feature uses Microsoft Word, thus providing unlimited options for report design and layout. This enables the common layout approach and sharing factor of the report, within your company.
